Grabbing the Idiot Ball with all their might is pretty much a running thing the characters do in this show.If the Supreme Kai (Kaioshin) has the ability to immobilize someone as strong as Gohan in his SSJ2 form, why didn't he try to do the same thing to Dabura, or Pipi, or Yakon for that matter?.At that point it's easy to put two and two together. Godly ki can't be sensed by those without it, a fact that would no doubt be among Kami's memories. The lack of a ki signature probably tipped him off, too.Considering what Piccolo did to Kami back in the Androids Saga, he didn't need any more bad juju going for him.He was essentially meeting and being asked to punch out that universe's equivalent of a pope. That's pretty much what happened to Piccolo. No, it'd be more like you stepping into a wrestling match ring, preparing to meet your opponent, only to learn it's a priest or some other religious figure.Or if the Black Prince of Wales showed up at a jousting tournament.It's how most people would react if the President showed up at your MMA match. Not some quirky fat guy, King Kai is serious business and Supreme Kai is HIS BOSS. King Kai is SUPER GOD of the North Quadrant of the Universe. It's easy to forget since they aren't super powerful and we refer to them on a first name basis but Kami and later Dende is GOD. Punching the King of the God Kings is bad juju.

Same reason why it took multiple episodes for Namek to blow up when it was only supposed to be ‘five minutes’.
